The Commerce Tiger Band Boosters is an outside non-profit organization made up of parents or guardians of band students and other interested supporters of the Commerce Bands.  If you're a parent of a band student, you're automatically a Band Booster!

WHAT DO THE BAND BOOSTERS DO?
The Boosters' mission is to promote, aid, and financially assist the Commerce High School and Middle School band programs, its students, staff, and parents by fostering responsibility, pride, and excellence in musicianship in the students, by supporting the band directors' vision, assisting the bands in their activities and shows, and promoting band involvement in our community.

Fundraisers such as Taste of Commerce are 100% Band Booster led.  

HOW DO I JOIN?
​You are always invited and welcome to attend band booster meetings, which take place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise stated) in the band hall at Commerce High School.

The success of the band program at Commerce High School and Middle School is due in no small part to the success of the Commerce Band Boosters.  Behind every successful student organization stands a parent support group willing to serve the students and directors of that organization. You can make a difference simply by your presence.  At a time when your child is making critical decisions about ethics, behavior, integrity, and the future, it is important for you to be involved. The Booster Club is an excellent way to stay involved.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
Each parent has something to contribute.  Expertise is needed in every possible area from making phone calls, sewing and word processing to accounting, or even just baking/cooking.  Our collective group of parents provides the tools of every trade. Many parents think that the sole purpose of the Booster Club is fundraising.  While that is part of what they do, the main purpose is to create a partnership that connects students, parents, and director.

BAND BOOSTER MEETING MINUTES

All students in the band program are highly encouraged to take private lessons on their instrument. Individual playing ability can only be improved so far within the confines of a full band rehearsal. By improving all the individuals in the band through individual instruction, the overall quality of the entire program will continue to improve. Recent studies across the nation suggest that nearly 80% of the students in All-State bands study privately. We are extremely fortunate in Commerce to have numerous highly qualified private lesson teachers available to help students reach that “next level” of performance. 

These professionals provide detailed, specific, one-on-one instruction, tailored for your child. Private lessons challenge the advanced students and accelerate students who need extra attention. Though optional, please consider private lessons as a necessary part of the band program.

The band directors will assist students in scheduling lessons with private lesson staff. Students studying privately take one 1/2 hour lesson per week. Private teachers do all teaching at CHS either during the student’s band class or before school. Each 1/2 hour lesson costs $14.00. Scholarships may be available, and will be awarded by the band directors on the basis of need. To be considered, students should meet privately with one of the band directors. 

Every year fifth graders in CISD have the opportunity to choose what electives they will take in sixth grade. If you want to take band it is as simple as selecting band as one of those electives. Towards the end of the school year those students that have chosen band as an elective will have the opportunity to attend the CMS Band Instrument Night. This event is an opportunity for students, with their parents and guardian, to work with a band director to find the best instrument. Students are able to try all nine instruments that are offered for the beginning band.  The CMS band has beginners start on Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, or Percussion.

Look at what instrument you will be able to purchase or rent. Commerce ISD always rents out french horns, trombones, euphoniums, and tubas to students for a yearly fee. There is a limited number of other instruments available for students to rent through the school for students that demonstrate need.
